WordPress website redesign

WordPress website redesign for a clearer, more useful site.

An existing website often has useful content alongside layouts or features that no longer fit the business. I help redesign WordPress websites by reviewing what should be retained, what needs improvement, and how the new structure will work. The process covers the visitor experience, the implementation, and the transition from the current site.

Start with the website you already have.

We review your important pages, services, integrations, and the problems you want to solve. Available search data and customer feedback can help identify priorities. A redesign should have a clear reason for each major change. We agree which parts of the current website still serve the business and which need a different approach.

Plan content and URLs before changing layouts.

Useful content, existing links, and established page URLs need attention during a redesign. I help identify the pages that should carry over and the content that needs rewriting or reorganising. If URLs change, we plan the relevant redirects. These decisions are considered before the new navigation and page structure are finalised.

  • Existing page and content review
  • Navigation and layout planning
  • URL mapping and agreed redirects
  • Integration, form and launch checks

Make the page hierarchy easier to understand.

The revised layouts should explain your services, surface relevant evidence, and show visitors what to do next. I review headings, content order, and the connections between pages. Mobile navigation and readability are considered alongside the desktop design, so the redesign supports the way people use the site on different devices.

Review the WordPress setup as part of the rebuild.

A redesign is an opportunity to examine the theme, builder, and plugins behind the website. Some parts may be retained, while others may need a more manageable approach. I work with Elementor Pro, Breakdance, Kadence, and Gutenberg. The choice is guided by your requirements and editing workflow rather than a change of tool for its own sake.

Check the working website before switching over.

We agree a way to review the new build before it replaces the live site. Important pages, forms, links, and any relevant shopping journeys are checked against the scope. Content and URL handling are reviewed during launch preparation. The launch steps also depend on your hosting setup and any external services connected to the website.

Separate a redesign from ongoing care.

After launch, the site still needs updates and support. We identify any maintenance requirements and explain the editing workflow during handover. A redesign can include performance and SEO improvements where agreed, but it is not a promise of a fixed search position or conversion increase. Those outcomes depend on more than the layout.

Bring the problems that matter to your brief.

Share the current website and describe what has become difficult for visitors or your team. That may be confusing service pages, awkward mobile layouts, outdated content, or a site that is hard to edit. I work directly with clients through review, design, development, and handover, drawing on 8+ years of experience across 75+ client websites.

BEFORE WE START

Your questions, answered.

Can you retain parts of the existing website?

Yes. We review useful content, branding, integrations, and pages before deciding what to change. The scope can cover a focused improvement or a fuller rebuild, depending on the current site and your requirements.

Will a redesign preserve my Google rankings?

Existing URLs, useful content, and redirects can be planned to reduce avoidable disruption. No redesign can guarantee unchanged rankings. Google may reassess pages, and changes need to be reviewed using available search data.

Does my website have to go offline during the work?

We agree the development and review approach before starting. A separate preview or staging environment can be used where the setup supports it. The final transition is planned around hosting and the website’s connected services.

Can you change the builder during a redesign?

Yes, if that is appropriate for the project. We review the existing content, layouts, and functionality first, then consider the work required to move them into a different WordPress setup.

Can performance improvements be included?

Yes. Image delivery, page assets, and other performance issues can form part of the agreed redesign. More detailed diagnosis and testing can be scoped through the website speed optimisation service.
